Columbia Road Flower Market
This weekend I dragged the boyfriend off to Columbia Road flower market. It starts at 8am on a Sunday morning, and you want to get there early before the bloggers and buggies descend! We got there just before 9, and wandered through trying to decide what on earth to buy - the choice in tulips alone is endless!
The street itself is filled with tiny shops with every imaginable flower related memorabilia though isn't as long as you'd think. After getting to the end we stopped for some tea, because early morning adventures require tea to make them more bearable!
They even had sweetpeas! Possibly my favourite summer flower.
Refueled we set off back up the street wandering from succulents and cactus, to tulips and daffodils; bulbs to plants, they have every kind of green thing you can imagine!
I was obsessed with these beautiful flowers, sadly I've no idea what they're called, leave me a comment below if you know! I can only describe them as mini peonies!
The stall holders are real characters, and as colourful as the flowers they're selling, throwing a good dose of banter over the general hubbub of indecisive flower buyers.
After an Easter filled with tulips I decided it was time to mix up my flower buying habits and aim for something a little more unique! It was a tough decision.
In the end I went for a crazy mix of 'mini peonies', sweetpeas, and anemones. I'm going to show you how I displayed them in another post later in the week!
Columbia Road is definitely worth a visit if you're as flower obsessed as me! I keep meaning to visit with my flower guru, ByBethany, as she'd know exactly what everything was called! I would recommend walking from Old Street, perhaps via the Breakfast Club as the boyfriend and I did last time we went and then walk onto Brick Lane or, just dash home with your bunch of flowers!
PS They only take cash and there aren't any local free cash machines so stock up before you go!
